DIY: Drain Cleaning

Draaaains! I’m a little bit tired to call the plumbers and ask for cleaning my pipes. The latest time when I noticed that our sink in bathroom is clogged, again, I look at my husband and we decided to learn how to do DIY plumbing.

So, are you looking for some ways how to clean drains by yourself? Let’s discuss the effective methods of clearing plugged tubs, clogged toilet, kitchen sinks, and clearing a troublesome drain. I also found several tips for regular monthly maintenance for your pipes to be in order. Ok, take a look on my recipe for easy clog cleaning!
The Vinegar Way

Method is tested and proven. Even if you have mild water backup, this method also will be effective. It is very important not to forget, that if the sink is empty (without any water) the process will go quicker. That’s why, first of all you need to get out any liquid from the sink. Then: add in the sink one cup of baking soda and then one cup of white vinegar. Then all you need to do is wait – wait for a half hour. After a half hour pour in the sink a full kettle of hot water. And now you can unplug your sink! If it is necessary you can repeat such cleaning two or three times.

“Flush” it

If you noticed that your drain slowing down when clearing and the drainage is just more sluggish than you are comfortable with, flush it with a full hot kettle in order to free up a partial blockage.

Trap Clearing

When we use the sink we rarely think about the nasty sink trap and the necessity of cleaning it, especially in case of the clog. In order to clean it you need to take out located beneath the sink the plug or trap. It is necessary to wear protective eyewear and gloves while doing it. You also can use a plumber’s snake or a coat hanger to deal with clog.

Soda Way

This method is like the first one, the only difference is that you use only baking soda. At first, you need to get out all water from the sink. Then add in the sink one cup of baking soda. Seal the sink drain and wait 30 minutes. Prepare a couple of kettles with boiling water and then pour them down. Oh, and when dealing with a double basin sink, put a stopper in at least one drain and treat one sink drain at a time to manage the clog.

Hope, these 4 ways will help you to deal with your clog!
